Blog Post #1: Intro

Hello everyone! My name is Madison, and I’m excited to be sharing my thoughts in this space with you all! I’m currently a student at SDSU, majoring in English, and I’ve always been drawn to creativity, drawing, storytelling, and the ways people express themselves whether that’s through writing, art, fashion, or online spaces.

One thing that really stands out to me about blogging is how writing exists within communities rather than in isolation. Writing online feels more interactive and alive than traditional academic writing, because it invites connections and conversation. A lot of how I experience the world and connect with others happens digitally, so blogging feels like a natural extension of that. On campus, I’m part of the English major community, which means I spend a lot of time reading and writing. Even outside of class, I notice how being an English major shapes how I think. Writing feels less like an assignment and more like a way of understanding people and experiences.

Off campus, I’m deeply connected to creative communities online. I use platforms like Instagram and Pinterest to explore fashion, visual storytelling, and aesthetics. These spaces feel inspiring because ideas are constantly shared and reinterpreted. They’ve shaped how I think about creativity and self-expression just as much as traditional writing has.

Here is a cake-themed corset I made as part of a creative DIY project. Creating wearable art is one way I explore storytelling outside of writing.

What I find especially interesting about blogging is how much the audience matters. Blogging allows for more personality and feels like a space where personal voice and academic ideas can exist together.

Here is also a sketch from my notebook. Drawing helps me think through ideas visually before turning them into writing or physical projects.

Overall, I’m hoping this blog becomes a space where I can experiment with ideas from class and discover my own voice as a writer. I’m especially interested in how community intersect in digital spaces, and I’m excited to see how our posts and conversations develop over time.
